Bishop offers strategies from the more than 200,000 new dads that have gone through Boot Camp in his second book, Crash Course for New Dads:  Tools, Checklists and Cheat Sheets on how dads can spend time with their babies even though they work long hours or frequently travel away from home:

·     Do everything you can to make sure you are there for your baby’s birth. 

·     Change that first diaper.  Make the time you do have with your baby count as much as possible.  Set the tone that you are here to be a player and get involved early.

·     Strive for solutions that enable you to spend time with your child.  Figure out how to work from home if possible, even if it is just once a week.

·     When you are home, make sure you spend time alone with your baby.  Don’t let your limited experience caring for your baby limit you.  Send mom out for an afternoon and just do it.

·     Play with your baby before you leave in the morning and just after you get home.  Many dads report that their babies sleep longer if they play with them at night.

·     Keep your baby’s picture where you’ll see it often and keep him/her in mind.

·     Call mom and catch up on your baby’s antics of the day.

·     Use technology!  Have mom hold the phone to your baby’s ear so you can talk to him/her.  Ask her to send pictures to your cell phone or email.

·     Be really creative.  A young father who was deployed to Iraq recorded himself singing a dozen nursery rhymes which his wife plays for their baby every day so that their baby will recognize dad’s voice when he returns.

I can not say a week, a month, 6 months or a year. Because everyone’s body is different, everyone’s determination is different and everyone’s answer to why they want a six pack is different. What I can tell you is some helpful tips to get you there as fast as you are willing to go. But be humble and really consider your current health condition and physical condition, you do not want to be over doing it, and injure yourself while trying to get that “beach body”.

First of all, before you start exercising, you need a good solid diet. A good diet for getting better abs, is one that cuts the fat, and focuses on protein, and lean meats, and carbohydrates. You want to eat every 2.5 to 3 hours, and include in your meals a meal replacement shake that is also high in protein.

It is easy to get into a robotic state of nutrition where we eat the exact same foods every day, ingesting the same breakfast, lunch and dinner and the only time we eat differently is when we go out for dinner or someone else cooks for us. It is easier to choose convenience over variety.

Just like our training that we rotate around to prevent boredom, you should rotate your food selection. Normally, you will eat whatever is in your house, so the best strategy to eating a healthy variety is to shop for different foods each week. This will help balance out your diet and help you measure the response a variety of foods. Don’t go for the boring and easy route.

Now as far as exercising and getting your answer to, how long does it take to get a six pack? It Sure is a Hell of a Long Way From Scotland to Barbados!

I’m a Scotsman that has moved to the beautiful Caribbean Island of Barbados to live and I have been here for approximately 4 weeks. It sure is a hell of a long way from Scotland to Barbados; I have traveled over 4700 miles and spent about 9.5 hours on planes to get here.

Of course there are huge lifestyle and cultural differences between my home country of Scotland and Barbados, but there are surprisingly also many similarities, which I have also came across.

The people that live in Barbados are predominantly black, with a small but diverse range of other nationalities living in the country. The citizens of Scotland are predominantly white, with an ever-increasing number of different nationalities now choosing to make the country their home.

Bajans like the Scottish are very patriotic people and have a huge amount of national pride regarding their respective countries. The citizens of both Scotland and Barbados have something else in common and that is the friendliness of their characters and their willingness to embrace people from other countries.

Scotland and Barbados are both extremely beautiful countries, which both have fantastic countryside areas and an abundance of wonderful and secluded beaches which are amongst the best you will find anywhere in the world. The one big difference, I suppose is that I have never had to wear a jumper or jacket when I have been to the beach in Barbados. Also the last time I was brave or foolish enough to have a wee dip in the North Sea, back home in Scotland, I thought I was going to die from the cold, it was what I would call bracing.

The mighty Atlantic Ocean can be found on the east and north coasts of Barbados and Scotland is bordered by the Atlantic on its north and west coasts. The Atlantic Ocean may not be very good for swimming in, but it has provided me with hours of fun on my boogie board, which is great fun for the slightly more adventurous souls out there. On wild and stormy days in Scotland I use to love sitting in my car watching the huge waves that the Atlantic would bring crashing against the shore, I use to find it a great way to relax.

Barbados use to be governed by the United Kingdom, until 1966 when it received its independence and has done fairly well as a nation since then. Scotland on the other hand, is at the present time still very much a part of the United Kingdom; it was however giving its own parliament in 1999. Independence for Scotland is something that will undoubtedly happen at some point in the future.

It may be a long way to travel from Scotland to Barbados. The weather and climate may be hugely different here in the Caribbean, and I may have only being here for four weeks but I feel very much at home. I have traveled to many different countries in my life so far and none of them I would have willingly left Scotland to go and live in. Barbados is my kind country and I’m proud to call it home.

Bailout Bank Blows Millions Partying In L.a…. This Is A Long One?

A bank that received $1.6 billion in bailout money just spent a fortune last week in L.A. hosting a series of lavish parties and concerts with famous singers … and TMZ cameras caught it all.
Northern Trust, a Chicago-based bank, sponsored the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club in L.A. We’re told Northern Trust paid millions to sponsor the PGA event which ended Sunday, but what happened off the golf course is even more shocking.
Northern Trust flew hundreds of clients and employees to L.A. and put many of them up at some of the fanciest and priciest hotels in the city. We’re told more than a hundred people were put up at the Beverly Wilshire in Bev Hills, and another hundred stayed at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. Still more stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey and others at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.
Here are the highlights:
- Wednesday, Northern Trust hosted a fancy dinner at the Ritz followed by a performance by the group Chicago.
- Thursday, Northern Trust rented a private hangar at the Santa Monica Airport for dinner, followed by a performance by Earth, Wind & Fire.
- Saturday, Northern Trust had the entire House of Blues in West Hollywood shut down for its private party. We got the menu — guests dined on seared salmon and petite Angus filet. Dinner was followed by a performance by none other than Sheryl Crow.
There was also a fabulous cocktail party at the Loews. And how’s this for a nice touch — female guests at the Chicago concert all got trinkets from….TIFFANY AND CO.
As for what all that costs, well the company isn’t talking. We spoke with a rep from the band Chicago who said Northern Trust paid them around $100,000. A House of Blues source told us it cost more than $50,000 to close the joint down last Saturday night. As for Sheryl Crow’s fee, her rep didn’t get back to us. Earth, Wind & Fire acknowledges payment but won’t say how much.
As for the golf tournament, a rep from the PGA told us Northern Trust wrote one big fat check in order to sponsor the event. That check covers part of the $6.3 million purse, the advertising costs for the spots on CBS (which broadcast the final two rounds of the tournament) and operating costs. The rep says the fee was negotiated and is confidential.
Lots of people from Northern Trust went to the golf tourney … in special Mercedes that shuttled them to and from the hotels. But for those who weren’t into golfing, they could spend a few hours at the Northern Trust seminar on the credit crunch.
Now how’s this for outrage? Northern Trust laid off 450 workers in December, 4% of its workforce.
Here’s what’s absolutely amazing — the United States Government flat out gave Northern Trust the $1.6 billion in bailout money, and the bank didn’t even request it!
Northern Trust gave us a statement yesterday before going total radio silence. A rep for the bank acknowledges they paid for the events, but that the bailout money did not pay for the events. He claims it was paid out of the bank’s operating expenses. Here’s Northern Trust’s full statement to us.
Perhaps we’re missing something, but money is money. How can they spend like this when they’re using taxpayer’s money, whether they asked for it or not? And where the hell is Congress in all of this? Is there any oversight or accountability?

Two people in my family are going to different colleges: one in CSULB (Located in Long Beach, CA) and another at Saddleback College (Located in Irvine, CA). Do you know of any good neighborhoods to buy a house that is between those two colleges so that they could both get to school easily? I am looking for a community that is not so dangerous like in the ghettos and also has affordable house prices.
