Honeymoon Ideas: Favorite Destinations for Lovebirds
The honeymoon is your time to relax and recuperate from frantic wedding preparations. And picking a place that both of you will enjoy is a must. Fortunately, the world presents countless honeymoon ideas that have something for both of you. Here are some of the more popular honeymoon destinations for couples of all types.
For the Couple on a Budget
The newest trend in honeymoon ideas this year is staying at home. In the U.S., for instance, couples are forgoing the expensive costs of acquiring passports, tickets, hotels, rental cars, and food – opting instead to save a few bucks, choose popular honeymoon destinations at home, and remain in their own backyards (so to speak).
St. Augustine, Florida, in particular, is one of the more popular honeymoon destinations that continue to attract visitors due to its year round temperate climate, proximity to beaches, quaint restaurants, and great shopping. Called the Oldest City in America, it was founded in 1565, and is the home of the Fountain of Youth, where visitors can drink its restoring waters. Other highlights of the town are Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas, and the Lightner Museum, all accessible by foot. Cozy honeymoon ideas are horse and carriage rides, theater shows, fishing, and parks, and there are romantic bed and breakfasts aplenty.
Out on the West Coast, there’s another hidden gem – Seattle, Washington. Mild in the summer, but a little chilly in the winter, this city is perfect for couples who are full of fun honeymoon ideas but don’t want to break the bank. There’s the Fish Market, where you can get a delicious meal, and the famous Space Needle. Even if these two honeymoon ideas don’t interest you, there are thousands of popular honeymoon destinations that offer unique experiences. But if you really want to go out of country, consider the benefits of staying at a youth hostel or monastery, which offer comfortable places to sleep at bargain-basement prices.
For the Outdoorsy Types
For the true outdoors couple, even simple honeymoon ideas like hiking or staying in a romantic cabin would be welcome. Odds are that you and your loved one like to travel without all the comforts of home. One of the more popular honeymoon destinations for outdoor lovers is a tour of the Amazon River. Visitors to the region will enjoy strolling along the Rainforest Canopy Walkway, a man-made bridge of wooden slats and ropes which overlooks the forest below, camping along the banks of the Amazon, allowing you to get up close and personal with the native animals and local flora and fauna, and exploring expansive wildlife parks. Should you book as part of a package, a number of hotel options are available, including forest lodges and other rustic accommodations
Another of the more popular honeymoon destinations for couples who enjoy travelling off the beaten track is an African safari, where locals take visitors out to the more remote areas in order to witness ‘the circle of life’ in action. You’ll see lions, tigers, cheetahs, zebras, and hyenas up close and in their natural habitat. Beautiful, pastoral African lodges add to the charm of the trip; at night, you and your sweetie can sip wine by African moonlight and talk the night away.
For the Thrill Seekers
These honeymoon ideas are not for the faint of heart. For couples who love an edge to their vacations, the following honeymoon ideas are meant just for you. One way to feel the rush is cage-diving with Great Whites off the coast of South Africa. On Seal Island, visitors get to experience the Great White shark in its natural element and watch it hunt the seals that inhabit the island. You’ll be able to dive into the blue Atlantic waters with a professional guide and interact with the sharks up close (protected by a sturdy steel cage of course).
One of the more thrilling, popular honeymoon destinations is Ireland; many companies offer motorcycle tours so you and your loved one can experience the beauty of the ‘Emerald Isle’ in a very unusual way. You’ll accelerate along the craggy cliffs, zigzagging on lonely roads, taking in the fresh Irish air. You’ll stop each night at a cozy B and B for some rest and start again the next day, averaging about five hours of riding time each day.
For the Laid-Back Lovers
Imagine lounging in a comfortable chair with a cold drink in your hand underneath a palm tree. Yes, for you laid-back lovers, your preferred honeymoon ideas center around the beach where you can sample delicious, homemade seafood platters and drink ice-cold tropical drinks while watching sail boats pass by. Though many islands in the Caribbean have resort rooms that are rather expensive, these popular honeymoon destinations are usually more well traveled than the rest.
To ensure that you and your loved one get some alone time, consider travelling to Turks and Caicos, Antigua, or St. Maarten, which are, on average, much more affordable honeymoon ideas and not as touristy. St. Maarten, in particular, is just one side of a dually governed island. It still retains much of its quaint Dutch charm and also features a butterfly farm, excellent hiking opportunities, and a long boardwalk. Many resorts and hotels offer special deals to honeymooners, so you can truly get a package deal at a great price.
For the History Buffs
Some of the more popular honeymoon destinations have become a little too frequently traveled for the serious history buffs. Couples who have a specific time period or country in mind should do a little research before putting their honeymoon ideas into action.
There are a few exciting, recently popular honeymoon destinations however, including the charming Eastern European city of Budapest, which has a number of honeymoon ideas and attractions right in town, such as the remarkable City Park which houses a restaurant, one of the oldest zoos in the world, a circus, an amusement park, swimming pools and medicinal baths, a castle, two museums, the Palace of Art, and Heroes’ Square, a well-known World Heritage Site. About an hour outside of the city is the start of the two centuries old Villany-Siklos wine route, which snakes around the countryside, allowing visitors to sample some of the best red wines in the world.
Another one of the more popular honeymoon destinations is a little closer to home – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With all the attractions close together, you’ll be able to tour the city on foot, getting some great exercise while learning about America’s history. About two and a half hours away is Gettysburg, home to the famed battlefield and the site of Lincoln’s address to the nation. With a number of small hotels in the area, you may want to consider booking a package deal beforehand, so by the time you arrive, the concierge or housekeeper has set the scene with candles, champagne, flowers, and chocolates or other personalized honeymoon ideas.
Make It the Trip of a Lifetime
No matter which popular honeymoon destinations you choose, it should be the trip of a lifetime. It’s one of the most special events you’ll share with your loved one, so take lots of pictures, purchase a memorable souvenir to hang in your new home, and splurge on a leisurely dinner at a great restaurant. The hardest part is coming up with honeymoon ideas and choosing where you want to go; after that, it’s time to enjoy some quality time with your sweetie!

On arrival into Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Kenya, from your International flight you will be met and transferred to Giraffe Manor where you stay for one night (bed and breakfast).
Kenya provides a beautiful location for a once in a lifetime safari with some fantastic safari memories. Kenya has some of the most luxurious lodges for the perfect African safari honeymoon.
Giraffe Manor is a beautiful elegant manor house built in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, situated in one hundred and twenty acres of beautiful forested land just eight miles from Nairobi city centre.
In 1974 Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville relocated five baby Rothschild giraffe to the grounds and guests can now feed them and their descendants from the second floor bedroom windows.
The home is spacious and elegantly furnished, with five bedrooms. Furniture and books from Karen Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton are to be found around the house.
In the grounds is a primeval forest with small game and many species of birds.
Days 2 to 5 – Cottars 1920′s Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya
In the morning you will be met and transferred to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to board a scheduled flight departing at 1000 to the Mara. On arrival at 1045 you will be met and transferred to Cottars 1920′s Camp where you stay for four nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).
Cottars 1920′s Camp is a superb stylish and luxurious camp on a vast 22,000 acre private area of land in the heart of the Masai Mara, Kenya. The camp is set on a hilltop with views for a dozen miles across rolling hills and expansive open plains dotted with acacia trees which are the setting for the world’s biggest animal migration between July and September as one and a half million wildebeest and zebra pass through the Mara.
Cottars is owned and run by Calvin and Louise Cottar who have been operating safaris in the Masai Mara for many years and who know their private conservancy and the entire Masai Mara Reserve intimately. The camp is very traditional with huge white canvas tents, open at the sides during the day, with proper beds, comfortable furniture and en suite w.c and shower, and from the chairs at the front of your tent you can enjoy the fine views across the plains. The camp is run with a good sense of style and the standard of food and service is excellent. Because it is set on a large private reserve you can enjoy walking with an armed guide, tracking animals through the bush and safari game viewing by vehicle during the day and at night, knowing that you will encounter no other tourists or vehicles. You can also venture further afield into other parts of the Mara following the huge migrating herds and seeing countless lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, elephant and buffalo in the company of Calvin and his other highly expert guides.
More so than any other camp in East Africa, Cottars manages to combine simplicity with a real sense of relaxed style and inspired guiding, cuisine and attention to detail, all of which goes to create an unforgettable African safari.
Days 6 and 7 – Little Shompole, Masai Mara, Kenya
After your morning activity you will be transferred by private charter flight to Little Shompole where you stay for two nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).
The Shompole area has an amazing variety of typically African scenery with acacia woodland and open grassy plains irrigated by rivers. There is also a small area of rainforest and swamp while at the foot of the Nguruman escarpment is the vast watery expanse of Lake Natron, one of the best breeding grounds for flamingos. This considerably varied landscape supports large numbers of animals including elephant, hyena, antelope and a wide range of plains game including zebra and giraffe. Shompole is also a good place for seeing predators, both the more spectacular ones such as lion and cheetah, as well as smaller cats such as serval.
Safaris are lead by experienced guides and colourfully clad Masai guides and trackers from the local community, and you can enjoy walking safaris, river trips, fascinating visits to Lake Natron and drives by open vehicle both during the day and at night. Guests can also enjoy a nights fly camping where a special temporary camp is set up for the night by a small support team in a particularly remote part of the reserve.
Overlooking the stunning expanse of the Great Rift Valley, the lodge is positioned ideally to make the most of both an incredible view and the cool breeze. Constructed using naturally occurring white quartz stone, pale thatch and fig wood. Two spacious suites, open to expansive views accommodates a lounge and sundeck, his and hers moulded wash basins, en-suite toilet and cascade shower and private cool pool. Each bed rests under a romantic high-canopied netting and canvas tent which can be closed at night against insects.
Little Shompole is ideal for Honeymooners seeking a remote and relaxing safari in a location where you are extremely unlikely to encounter any other tourists, and one where you can enjoy a wider variety of safari game viewing options than is possible in most parts of East Africa. It is the high level of comfort and peacefulness which is particularly conducive to for a relaxing stay, and the lodge is run as a genuine partnership with the local Masai community who participate in the guiding and whose local communities benefit from income which the lodge receives.
Days 8 to 13 – Fundu Lagoon, Pemba Island, Tanzania
After your morning activity you will be transferred to the airstrip to board a private charter flight to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. On arrival you will be met and assisted to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport to connect with the Kenya Airways flight KQ492 departing at 1300 to Zanzibar. On arrival you will be met and transferred by a light aircraft flight to Pemba Island to stay for six nights at Fundu Lagoon at the beachside suite (fully inclusive of meals and non-motorised watersports).
Fundu Lagoon is located on the crescent-shaped island of Pemba, which lies to the north of Zanzibar. It is one of the most secluded and romantic small resorts around East African coast and provides superb snorkelling and diving opportunities. Fundu Lagoon is a fantastic beach destination for a Honeymoon with its crystal clear waters and star lit skies you can loose yourselves in the mystery of Africa.
Guests are accommodated in fourteen very spacious and luxurious canvas under thatch rooms constructed of local materials, each set on raised wooden decking creating a veranda which gives you marvellous views across the Indian Ocean, especially when having sundowners after a long and dusty safari game drive. Inside there is a large bedroom/living area and en-suite bathroom and each room is tastefully and comfortably furnished with coconut-wood furniture and large four-poster bed.
Recent additions to the lovely accommodation at Fundu Lagoon are two beautiful beach front superior suites which enjoy stunning views. This flagship accommodation is extremely spacious and incorporates a gorgeous stone wall bathroom with a double vanity unit and shower. A romantic queen size double bed and expansive open plan lounge leads out onto the private deck where you have your own large plunge pool. This accommodation is perfect for a romantic stay for Honeymooners as you feel more private and set back from the other guests.
From your cottage you can wander through the trees down to the pristine white sand beach, which stretches for over three miles beside the multi-hued blues of the Indian Ocean. Fundu has a fine restaurant where delicious meals are served featuring locally caught seafood as a speciality. There are two bars, including one a couple of hundred metres down the beach where a Swahili barbecue is sometimes created.
Fundu has a wide range of watersports including water-skiing, knee-boarding, snorkelling, dhow rides and kayaking through mangrove swamps. There is also a fully-equipped PADI diving centre and experienced divers will be able to enjoy the superb array of coral reefs which encircle the island and which include some fine opportunities for wall-diving. Dive boats are capable of fifty knots and can take divers to any part of the island and surrounding reefs, while novices can enjoy shorter shallow dives with well-qualified instructors.
Kenya combines an overland African safari with a beach break perfectly, as romance and tranquilty are the main factors of this remote luxury honeymoon safari.
Day 14

The Hawaii Honeymoon
Where in Hawaii can we expect to get the most for our money?
Ed Lee: Hawaii has a wide variety of accommodations in all price ranges including bed & breakfasts, hotels, and condominiums. The city of Waikiki has more hotels than condominiums and you can find a number of moderate hotels if you don’t mind staying three or four block from the beach. Maui, on the other hand, has more condominiums than hotel rooms. The moderately priced hotels and condominiums can be found in the southern region of Kihei. The Kihei properties are conveniently located across the street from the public beaches. Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii have fewer choices for moderate hotels and condominiums. The moderate hotels on Kauai can be found north of the airport in Lihue along the coconut coast of Kapaa. The moderate hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii can be found in the Kailua Kona area on the western side of the island.
When is the best time of the year to go to Hawaii?
Ed: Hawaii is a great destination with warm and balmy weather most of the year. Rainfall varies with the location more than the season. The western and southern regions of the islands, the leeward side, have the driest and sunniest conditions with the calmest waters. The rainy season is from November to April. You will find stormy weather at times during the winter, but much of the rain consists of short daytime showers followed by rainbows.
Hawaii has several peak travel seasons, January – March, June – August, the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. The highest prices and greatest travel demand are found during these peak travel seasons.
Do you have any favorite “hidden gems” in Hawaii?
Ed: You can find hidden gems on most of the Hawaiian Islands. The Outrigger Royal Kahana on Maui is good value that is located just north of the more expensive hotels on Kaanapali Beach. It is a condominium with a full kitchen in all units and is close to shopping, fine restaurants, and golf courses.
The Miramar at Waikiki is a moderate hotel on the island of Oahu with a great location. It is a few blocks from the beach and in the heart of Waikiki near shopping, restaurants, and public transportation.
The Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on The Big Island of Hawaii is a moderate hotel with a great location. Turtles and fish can be found in the tide pools and coral formations at the resort and it is a great place to snorkel. A replica of King David Kalakaua’s beach cottage and the remains of three heiau, ancient Hawaiian temples, can be found at the resort.
Hawaii has a number of smaller luxury hotels if you want to splurge for your honeymoon. The Whalers Cove on Kauai is small, secluded oceanfront hideaway located in the sunny Poipu area of the island. It is a condominium resort with spacious units and a cove that is perfect for snorkeling and diving.
The Hotel Hana Maui is a small, luxurious hotel in a remote town on the island of Maui. A private deck hot tub is offered in many of the Sea Ranch Plantation style cottages. The hotel offers yoga classes, horseback riding along the Hana Coast, a spa and much more.
The Four Seasons Lanai at Manele Bay Resort on the private island of Lanai is a secluded retreat of pristine natural beauty. The resort is perched above a white-sand beach that borders a protected marine preserve and features spectacular views of the ocean and Lanai’s dramatic coastline. The resort has an exclusive spa, outstanding dining venues, and luxury guest rooms.
Compared to Mexico or Tahiti, what makes Hawaii a special desination?
Ed: Hawaii is an exotic Polynesian destination that is a part of the United States. For American travelers, the demands of a foreign country such as a passport, currency exchange, a different language and culture are not found in Hawaii. The diversity of Hawaii with its great beaches, rainforests, volcanoes, sea cliffs, and the friendly mix of people make it a unique and exotic destination.
Hawaii is perfect for a short or long vacation with a flying time of about six hours to most islands from the west coast of the United States.
The Hawaiian Islands have many people that return to visit due to the stunning beauty of the islands, the diverse culture, and its rich history.
Where do celebrities like to stay?
Ed: Hawaii is a favorite of celebrities for the great beaches, the warm tropical weather, and great natural beauty of the islands.
The Four Seasons Lanai at Manele Bay was the honeymoon destination of Bill Gates and Melinda French. The Kona Village on the Big Island of Hawaii was the honeymoon choice of Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook.
The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii was the site of Lisa Marie Presley’s wedding to Nicolas Cage.
The Princeville Resort on Kauai is a favorite of celebrities such as Matt Leblanc.
Ed Lee is one of the top Hawaii travel specialists at TheBigDay Travel.Ed is a specialist in arranging trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe and adventure travel to most parts of the world with 12 years of travel experience.
He is a graduate of Oregon State University and has travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and Canada.

Are you in the process of planning your wedding? Although you may be more concerned about the wedding ceremony and reception, there will come a time when you will need to start planning your honeymoon. When that time arrives, Jamaica should definitely be examined.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of destinations around the world that are often referred to as the “perfect,” honeymoon destination. This may make choosing a destination for your next honeymoon seem next to impossible. So, what sets Jamaica apart from all of the rest? A lot. In fact, you may be surprised just how many reasons there are why your honeymoon should be in Jamaica.
One of the many allures of Jamaica is its beautiful weather. Tropical weather and honeymoons are a match made in paradise. In fact, paradise is where you will be when on the island of Jamaica. With warm weather, regardless of when you travel to the area, you can have the honeymoon of your dreams.
In keeping with the weather, it opens up a world of opportunity for you. Most honeymooners would love to spend their days relaxing by the beach. The weather of Jamaica makes it more than possible for you to spend your Caribbean honeymoon this way. As great as relaxing by the beach sounds, you may want to enjoy other fun water sports and activities. The weather and beautiful beaches of Jamaica can also allow you to do so. Sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, waterskiing, windsurfing, swimming, and kayaking are all popular beach activities. Glass bottom boat tours and horseback rides along the shore are popular activities for honeymooners.
Even if you want to step away from the beach, there is so much for you to do and see while on a Jamaica honeymoon. If you opt to stay at a Jamaica resort, you may gain easy access to golf, volleyball, and tennis. There are also a number of offsite activities and attractions that you can enjoy. For example, Negril is home to Mayfield Falls, the Negril Scuba Centre, and the Royal Palm Reserve. Montego Bay, another popular Jamaica honeymoon destination, is home to the Aquasol Theme Park, the Doctor’s Cave Beach Club, and the Greenwood Great House.
Perhaps, the greatest reason why Jamaica is the perfect destination for Caribbean honeymoons is because of all-inclusive resorts. All-inclusive resorts come in a number of different formats. No matter what format you choose, you will likely be pleased with your travel arrangements. All-inclusive resorts combine many of your vacation expenses into one. For example, the cost of most of your food and drinks may be included in the overall cost of your stay!
As nice as traditional all-inclusive travel packages are, you will want to look for Jamaica resorts that are classified as super-inclusive resorts. With these types of travel arrangements, there is no worrying or second-guessing involved. You know right from the start what is included in the cost of your stay. With super-inclusive or ultra-inclusive resorts, you won’t just receive some of your food and drinks included in your travel package, but you should find all of them. In fact, premium drinks should be included as well. For that reason, if given the choice, opt for an all-inclusive travel package or resort that provides you with more, as it will be worth it in the long-run.
In addition to choosing between traditional resorts, all-inclusive resorts, and super-inclusive resorts, there are other choices that you will have to make. While on a honeymoon, you are likely looking for privacy and romance. Did you know that you could stay at an adult only resort or even a couples only resort? You can. As much as you may like children, you may not want to hear the playful screams of children playing in the pool on your honeymoon. That is why adult resorts or couples only resorts are a nice option to have.
If a Caribbean honeymoon in Jamaica sounds nice to you, examine SuperClubs.com. They are your one-stop place for planning your honeymoon. With a number of all-inclusive and super-inclusive resorts to choose from, most or all of your honeymoon can be paid for before you even set foot on the island.
