Very nice area, but it won’t be cheap. Ocean Blvd is almost beach front property. Since the P.D’s main headquarters is on Ocean Blvd it is quite safe. You will also have direct access to one of the best public transportation systems in SoCal.

I live in Long Beach (Bluff Park) and I wouldn’t live downtown. There are too many homeless, sex predators, there isn’t any parking and there is too much graffitti and empty store fronts. It’s also surrounded by the ghetto. Look on the website crimereport.com and meganslaw.com for crime stats and all of the registered sex predators in the neighborhood.
The reason you are probably getting such a good deal on the condo is that nobody is buying them. There have been numerous articles in the LB papers about the new empty and over-priced for the area condos.
Look into Belmont Shore for ocean view places and safer neighborhoods.

Downtown Long Beach is a great area in terms of general atmosphere. It’s relatively safe at most any hour, especially the area you’re considering. There’s also a free shuttle bus (“The Passport”) system that covers most of the popluar areas of Downtown Long Beach. The only drawback is the area can get quite congested with traffic both car and pedestrian traffic, especially in the East Village Arts District. The West Village gets very congested in the evenings and on weekends, since the restaurants and night life is centered along Pine Ave. But that is to be expected, in a typical downtown area, not just Long Beach.
One site I suggest you have a look at is the Downtown Long Beach site. The link is below.

I would suggest checking out the local crime situation before buying -http://www.zirana.com/longbeach/crimehttp://www.zirana.com/longbeach/register…

If you get a condo on Ocean Blvd., the safety and location is a great place to live. But anywhere else in Downtown I would not recommend.

I wouldn’t recommend it.
Especially at night when the homeless, druggies, and alcoholics roam around.
