Driving From Santa Barbara To Los Angeles/long Beach Area For Thanksgiving. What Would Be Faster?
I was wondering what would be faster for getting home for the holiday weekend. I figure there’ll be traffic either way I decide to take home. I can’t leave Santa Barbara until around 5p.m. due to work and classes.
The route I normally take home is the 101S to the 405S to the 105S. However, I was thinking maybe 101S to PCH and then to 105S may involve less traffic. Opinions? Advice?

Check the traffic online before you leave and make your decision then. Generally, PCH is the slower route.
Enjoy your holiday!

I guess no matter what freeways you take you’re going to experience traffic. Try considering the 101S to the 110S to the 105E (or 405S, depends where in Long Beach you’re going). The 405 will be bumper to bumper almost the whole way, and it’s longer because you’re going around. At least the 101S will have less traffic (although not considerably).
You can take the PCH, but there could be a chance that mudslides might close the road with the rains. Also there’s less lanes, so any accidents there will be a major problem.
You can check out these two sites for updates on traffic conditions…http://www.dot.ca.gov/http://www.chp.ca.gov/news_traffic/index…

The 105 does not go “S”, it’s an east to west freeway. There’s no difference, if you want to go to LA or LB, you’ll end up having to take yet another freeway (110 or 710) anyway, so I don’t see any time saving there. I would stay away from PCH anyway unless you want a mudslide from Malibu on your car.

I would take Hwy. 1 just to enjoy less traffic and also enjoy the views. ^_^
That’s just me. It may different for you.

I am not sure of your final destination but stay on the freeways once you get into Santa Monica PCH is nothing but stoplights
