Long Beach State makes it look easy against UCLA
The Orange County Register – Sports — Mon Nov 30 12:00:00 UTC 2009 ANAHEIM – Normally when we discuss “eighth-ranked UCLA” we're talking about national polls, not the caboose of an 8-team, made-for-cable basketball tournament at the foot of Space Mountain. Long Beach State knew this was a game it should…

Tropical Island Hopping – Hawaii Style
Welcome to paradise for that is what the word ‘Hawaii’ means; and with a warm, sub-tropical climate, friendly outgoing people, some of the world’s most wondrous scenery and those famous beautiful beaches, who are we to argue? The islands of Hawaii each have their own unique characteristics and the four main islands offer a world of contrasts. There are black lava desert plains, waterfalls, rainforest, the world’s most active volcano, endless beaches and even snow-capped mountains.
The Hawaiian Islands are known for their breathtaking scenery and the hospitality of their people, as well their abundant marine life. Surfing and diving are popular pursuits, but you can kayak or bicycle tour the islands as well. With most high-density tourism activity located around Honolulu, on the island of Oahu (also home to the famed Waikiki beach resort), visitors looking for a more laid-back holiday usually head for one of the other islands.
The long awaited Superferry service has now started operation, so access to the outer islands is better than ever and cheaper. This high-speed, 866-passenger catamaran carries both people and vehicles between Oahu and Maui, and should begin services to Kauai in the near future.
You can drive aboard the Hawaii Superferry in your own car, relax in the lounges, watch TV and enjoy refreshments during the three-hour ocean voyage. Adult, advance purchase, midweek fares start at $44 one way (plus a fuel surcharge), while peak fares (Friday-Monday) start at $54. You can take your car for an extra $59.
The introduction of the Superferry has dramatically altered the fare structures for traveling within the Hawaiian Islands, forcing airlines, which have long dominated inter-island transportation, to slash their fares to meet their new competitors head to head. Of course airfares change regularly, but in recent months Hawaiian and Aloha airlines have been offering inter-island sale fares of $19 one way. These airlines also offer tour packages that allow you to see as many of the major islands in Hawaii that you have the time and resources to visit.
Cruise ships also run services to Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii (often called the big island to avoid confusion with the state of Hawaii), giving you a taste of the best each island has to offer.
A trip from Honolulu to Maui by Superferry takes about three hours, compared to about 40 minutes by plane. To secure cheap air and ferry fares, be sure to make your reservation early – at least two to three weeks in advance, or at least as soon as you know your travel dates. Also, flying on a weekday usually costs less than flying on Saturday or Sunday, and flights departing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday generally offer the lowest fares.
If you visit during the low season (January-May, September-November) you can save up to 20 per cent on fares. So whenever you travel to Hawaii, keep in mind the different options for inter-island travel and check the transportation companies well in advance for new services and special rates. Welcome to paradise!

Finding the Perfect Family Vacation at the Perfect Price
I have been in the travel business for 15yrs, and I am often asked the best times to travel to the Caribbean. My personal opinion is between the end of Thanksgiving thru December 19. The weather is great, the prices (especially this year) are low and the resorts are not crowded.
If you are parents of kids under 6, this could be perfect. However, for those of us who can not take our children out of school, we will have to deal with the extra expense of holiday travel, the long lines and crowded pools. Or do we?
As all of the deals pass my desk, I look for value and pick the best ones to share with my readers. I have NEVER seen prices this low for holidays and winter travel. Holiday travel usually is 3-4 times the regular rates, this year, it is the same or lower. If you still have your travel budget put aside – use it now, take advantage of these deals – because I have never seen rates like these before.
In thinking of family vacations, the first one that comes to mind is Club Med. Last time I was there, we still had to pay for drinks, now it is truly all inclusive – drinks, sports, you name it, it is included in the vacation cost. There are many resorts through out the Caribbean that I can recommend for families, but we will focus on Club Med right now, as their prices are phenomenal for the experience and memories the entire family will come home with.
If you do not feel like reading all of my descriptions – go straight to the deal, the best prices are from now to December 19, however, if you keep clicking, you will also find never before seen prices during the holidays and winter!
The basic deal is: 7 all-inclusive nights for the price of 3, which usually is $793per person ($114 a day). Book by December 15 for travel between 9/15/08 – 4/25/09.

Ger Your Kicks in Patong
Love it or hate it – Patong is Phuket’s playground. People flock to Patong for a variety of reasons. For some, it’s the beach – although the beach in Patong is definitely nothing to get excited about. For others, it’s the nightlife, which is definitely something worth getting excited about. Patong is overdeveloped, it’s noisy and it’s full of people, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time there.
Without wanting to make too many sweeping generalizations, Patong is the favored destination of single, Western males. Some travel alone while others might go with friends. Remember: Patong is a playground. The nightlife in Patong is about as interesting as you will find on the island. However, the scene is developing.
For a long time, if you mentioned nightlife in Patong to most people, they’d have immediately thought of go-go bars and bar girls. All of that still exists, but the nightlife scene in Patong is now a lot more diverse than it used to be.
Patong now has dance clubs and salsa bars, jazz clubs and trendy hangouts. There is, though, still no escaping the fact that Patong has far too many beer bars. If having Thai bar girls flaunt themselves in front of you is what you’re after then Soi Bangla will be like a little slice of heaven.
With regards to the beach in Patong, it may have been a scenic area before, but it’s now full of parasols and sun loungers and people trying to get you to rent jet-skis. Other annoyances include people selling ice creams, people offering massages and people trying to draw henna tattoos while you’re sunbathing.
If you’re a foodie then Patong will provide you with a few surprises. Although the food can be expensive, just take a walk along the street and you’ll see just how many great restaurants there are in the area. All tastes are catered to, although there are perhaps a few too many Italian restaurants.
One gripe about Patong is the tuk-tuk drivers. Half of them are honest folk just trying to make a living, but the other half are scoundrels who should be given a wide berth. There have been numerous cases of tuk-tuk drivers becoming very aggressive with people who park in “tuk-tuk zones”, which really don’t exist. The tuk-tuk drivers in Patong have a monopoly over public transport because every time the authorities try and do something about the situation, the tuk-tuk drivers block the streets with their vehicles.
Overall, Patong is a great party destination with an average beach and lots of beautiful Thai women. Heaven or hell? You decide.

Why Naturalist Photography Has Nothing to Do With Pornography
The basic principles of naturist photography are to be found in the guidelines of a very nonconformist trend known as naturism. There are several reasons for which this cultural movement is both controversial and interesting at the same time: it basically relies on harmonious life style expressed through social nudity. Naturist photography basically depends on nude models captured in the most common of postures from beach walking to sleeping. In order to better define the term “naturist” and avoid the confusion with naturalism, we could put an equality sign between naturism and nudism. Most naturist photography sessions are organized at special resorts where the community can openly express themselves.
By naturist community we also imply all the facilities where nudity is openly and legally permitted. The major source of inspiration for most naturist photography is to be found in the tradition that claims a complete nudity around the premises of nudism resorts. Clothes wearing is often an option except for the areas such as the swimming pools, the beaches or the sunbathing lawns where clothes are not allowed. Naturist photography reflects all the non-conformism of a life style that contradicts the secular rules that have made people cover their nakedness.
Naturalist photography has nothing to do with pornography, as long as it respects the guidelines of subjects in all the simplicity of their bodies. Naturalism photography doesn’t deal with explicit intercourse as that falls under a porn label. More or less naturist photos are meant to show respect for the human body in its entire complexity of structure, as it should be respected, cherished and enjoyed. Despite the calumnies that can be often associated with the naturist life style, people who live according to such principles consider themselves safe from shame, degradation and negative feelings towards the human body in general. Naturist photography is therefore a mirror of the simplicity of form.
Collections of naturist photography are available on special sites on the Internet; some of the web pages even allow importing some pictures as well as the uploading of some others. What you should be careful with in terms of photography downloading is the possibility of infringing the copy right law. Unless otherwise stipulated on the site, the photos are usually the property of those who have made them. Naturist photography catalogs are often included in non-conformist art shows that fully reflect the tendency to free the individual from the burden of prejudices so specific to our times.
California Realtor
California Real Estate Agent John-Robin Middlebrook Sells real estate online in less than 4 months.
Though real estate has been around forever, I can remember when “Netscape” became the official web browser and “Yahoo” email was just a thought of the imagination. I was a freshman and first teaching web design at the University of Southern California at the time. Back then, the Internet was born and I was there to watch it unfold from the beginning at a high tech academic institution. We used telnet to open our emails and C, the most rudimentary computer language, was the computer language of choice for computers at that time. Today, more than twelve years later, as a real estate and Internet specialist I provide world-class realty services to help real estate agents, sellers and buyers across the nation sell their California home sales, California land sales, and California commercial property lease and sales faster than ever before! I have never had an expired listing and all my listings have sold from as little as 1 day to less than 4 months.
My California real estate agent sales experience includes a solid background of “A” quality companies including Keller Williams Realty in California (I have worked for several franchises), Century 21 Beachside CA, and Remax International. All of these brokerages have achieved superior recognition for being the highest grossing real estate sales companies in the world. Also my latest franchise, Keller Williams Realty, was voted the 66th company of the top 500 franchises by Entrepreneur Magazine (Remax is listed 8th). I also have a network of real estate agent connections from Prudential, Coldwell Banker, ERA, and Realty Executives. My territories include: Imperial County, Kern County, Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and beyond. Please contact me today to get started.
California Real Estate Agency Experience
Keller Williams Realty in California and I crossed paths in December of 2005. My first experience toward becoming a California Keller Williams real estate agent was in Los Alamitos, Orange County, Southern California. I have enjoyed being a Christian realtor since 2002 and I look forward to working with other sellers, buyers, and realtors of all beliefs outside of California. Actually, the first day I was introduced to Keller Williams Realty I signed in Norwalk, Los Angeles County, Cal. When I sell a California home I go all out and I closed one deal on a Whittier home in that agency in the second month while my first broker at Keller Williams in Norwalk chose to relocate his agency to a bigger office location in Santa Fe Springs next to La Mirada, close to Biola University, California. Shortly thereafter I made a move to become one of the Keller Williams Long Beach agents in Bixby Knolls. Once at the Keller Williams Long Beach CA office I managed to have one family set up to relocate out of a beach vacation home in Miami Florida with the help of a great Keller Williams Florida referral agent. Then I made a move to the Keller Williams Realty Long Beach Coastal office closer to the beach right across the street from where I was first introduced to California real estate sales at the Century 21 Beachside office in Naples in 2002 and I opened escrow on a new deal at the Keller Williams Long Beach Coastal office on the second day.
I have had encounters with agents from the Keller Williams Realty franchise in Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Cerritos, Norwalk, La Mirada, Long Beach, Seal Beach/Los Alamitos, Whittier, Orange, Anaheim, City of Industry, Brea, La Habra, Al Hambra, Monterey Park, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, Laguna Hills, San Clemente, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Stanton, Westminster, Cypress, La Palma, Pasadena, Lancaster and Kern County, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura County. These are the cities for Keller Williams real estate Southern California close to my area: Beverly Hills, Cerritos, Downey, Glendale, Hermosa Beach, Lakewood, Hollywood, Brentwood, La Mirada, Los Angeles, Westside Los Angeles, Los Feliz, Marina del Rey, Northridge-, Norwalk, Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Pasadena, Palos Verdes, Keller Williams Realty Redondo Beach, Santa Fe Springs, Santa Moni, Studio City, Torrance, Santa Clarita, Valencia, Woodland Hills, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Chino Hills, Corona, Norco, Rancho Cu monga, Redlands, Riverside, Temecula, rlsbad, San Diego, Escondido, La Mesa, Santa Maria, marillo, Simi Valley and Keller Williams Realty Thousand Oaks California, CA.
Former Agencies: Remax and Century 21 in California
As a California realtor working for Remax I helped a family relocate from California to Arizona. They moved from Garden Grove in Orange County California to Mesa Arizona. For that property I received the highest sales price in the city of Garden Grove within a 4 mile radius for 6 months for a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in 2003, during a seller’s market! I also sold the home next door as a Remax relocation realtor in Southern California at the time. My first California real estate referral was with a Remax realtor from Texas. I also did a California relocation referral with a Remax real estate agent in Atlanta Georgia and one with a Remax agent in Delta Colorado. Before I started at Keller Williams or Remax I started selling real estate in Southern California at Century 21 Beachside with offices in Brea, Chino Hills, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Laguna Niguel, Long Beach (Naples), Mission Viejo, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Whittier.
I look forward to opening my own California real estate brokerage in the future.

College Coaching’s Musical Chairs
The film world was saddened this holiday season with news of the passing of Ann Savage – perhaps the original Femme Fatale. ‘Femme Fatale’ roughly interpreted, stands for ‘Fatal Woman.’ Get too close and you lose your good judgment, get whacked or at least seriously embarrassed. Using the universal laws of attraction, the standard methodology includes luring unsuspecting folks who will listen to seductive language which in the end, causes people to make really poor decisions.
As college football heads into the annual period of depression known as winter, some programs will be hard at work to rebuild or to at least get dog programs to respectability. Coaching candidates offer seductive language, grand visions and in some instances, cause the hiring institutions to make some really poor decisions.
In the end, schools have to try something radical to turn losers into winners. Witness the University of Buffalo. For years a doormat program, the Bulls actually achieved an unbelievable level of success in 2008 with a bowl appearance. Even though the Bulls lost to UConn in the International Bowl, this is a remarkable turn-around for a program that in the not too distant past, was simply the laughingstock of eastern college football. Congrats then to the Bulls and coach Turner Gill. This is what one would refer to as a “good hire.”
Which coaching decisions will turn out to be the poor ones? One never knows for sure, but there are some bizarre story lines already forming on the surface of the 2009 season.
Iowa State got really lucky in having its 2-10 coach hired away by – of all people – Auburn. This saved the school from itself when the Cyclone brass offered the former coach a contract extension. Racking up 2008 season wins over South Dakota State and Kent State at the beginning of the season, the Cyclones proceeded to lose everything else. Iowa State then replaced its lost head coach with native Iowan Paul Rhoads. Rhoads brings impressive credentials, a commitment to win in the state of Iowa and comes to the Cyclones from –of all places – Auburn. 2009 will see which school got the best end of this deal. Stay tuned on this one!
The Sage of College Football (your humble author) wishes Coach Steve Sarkisian at Washington the best of luck in 2009. Coach Sark probably read the tea leaves in his former position at USC and determined that his upward upward mobility would be better served by looking for another institution to craft into a winner. But Washington? The Huskies ended this past season winless – the first perfectly dreadful season for a Pac-10 school. If the Huskies turn in a few wins in 2009, coach Sark will really have accomplished something significant. Then look out for the purple dogs in 2012.
The opportunity to turn a loser into a winner will frequently override a coaching candidate’s better judgment. The Sage hopes that New New Mexico State Coach DeWayne Walker made a good choice. Walker is the 33rd head coach of the Aggies and has his work cut out for him. The Aggies managed a single conference win last season and probably have the Cornhuskers, Michigan and a variety of other schools trying to get ‘em on their home schedules. Should Walker get a couple of wins, New Mexico State’s biggest challenge will be keeping him.
Going north from Las Cruces, the University of New Mexico also found itself in need of a new head football coach following the resignation of coach and alum Rocky Long. Never a powerhouse in the Mountain West Conference, New Mexico was in need of a recruiting ace to lure decent players to Albuquerque. Interestingly, the Lobos managed to convince Mike Locksley to give up his position as Offensive Coordinator at Illinois to try and push UNM in the right direction. This will take quite a bit of pushing. However, among Locksley’s qualifications is a top 25 recruiting rating from Sports Illustrated. Should Locksley attract better players than have previously taken the field for the Lobos and get some wins in old UNM Stadium, other programs are going to want to know exactly how he did it. They are also going to want to hire him. Both football programs in the state of New Mexico need to make generous contract extension offers should either of their new coaches appear to be getting their respective programs turned around.
Brady Hoke, formerly Head Coach at Ball State, now finds himself in the same position at San Diego State. Admittedly, SDSU could offer things that Ball State couldn’t – like a beach and decent weather. Hoke traded in his #12 Ball State Cardinals for one of the worst programs going. If he can turn it around in South California, he will be one of the hottest coaching commodities going. The Aztecs also better have a retention plan in place should Hoke start winning.
There isn’t a task more daunting than taking over a perennial loser and turning it around – except perhaps for taking over a program that is used to winning and keeping it that way. Witness Lane Kiffen –the new Head Coach of the Tennessee Volunteers and former Head Coach of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders. Here is a guy who won’t miss church the rest of the year. Getting fired by Al Davis at Oakland is not a disgrace as much as it is a blessing. But then to land in Knoxville? A bowl appearance in 2009 would be the ‘hat trick.’ There is real pressure in Knoxville, though, and 104,000 fans will be in Neyland Stadium for every home game to apply it.
The annual shuffling of the head coaching ranks has just about ended now for 2009. The motivational speeches are being prepared for the Spring Games heralding a “new way of thinking,” “a winning attitude,” “putting the past behind us,” and “making something special happen.” These are all great speeches, and are essentially given to every college level player with the courage to take the field for a losing program. Next September, we will finally see which programs have been lured in with sweet talk of victory and which programs actually deliver. The unfortunate part of hiring coaches is that a good decision is rewarded with having to come up with a big contract extension. A poor decision puts your program right back in the dumper.
